LAHORE – Psychologists define it as an emotion while philosophers call it a state of elation. Religious scholars pose that there is nothing like it and youngsters all claim to have experienced it. No matter how we choose to define it, we can’t deny its existence and so this valentines day Pakistan Today catches up with some of the musicians to see how they define the crazy little thing called love and how they choose to spent the day.
The lovebird that’s very professional
That has to be Ali Zafar because on one hand he says, “We don’t define love. Love defines us.” While on the other hand he maintains, “I think I will be spending the Valentine’s Day promoting my new album ‘Jhoom'” The multitalented star was recently spotted at an award ceremony in Singapore with the love of his life, his wife Ayesha whom he described in an exclusive interview as, “a huge part of my success and I always want to share my big moments with her. My woman has a very strong role to play and that way I wanted here to be there at the ceremony and that’s why I took her along.” Clearly in love, the star can’t help being professional either.
The married and mature lover
That’s Meesha Shafi for sure. She proclaims, ” Our everyday life gets much crazier than any valentine’s day we’ve had so far, when a married couple travels, tours for rock concerts and gets up on stage to perform all over the world, you end up with many more stories than those that revolve around just one day.”
The musician who keeps his brain out of it
This title is reserved from Qurram Hussain of the Montreal based band Josh who says, “Love is all around. It’s a feeling. If you define it, you trivialize it. It’s better to bask in it whenever you get the chance, and let’s not bring the boring brain into this!”. As far as his own plans about the special day are concerned, he reveals, “I’m spending it by not doing anything for Valentines. A special day should not be forced by society, and should come from a personal reason to celebrate.”
The philosophical lover
This category defines Shallum Xavier who defines love as, “the strongest emotion, love can make you climb mountains and cross the oceans, love can make you fly and love can make you cry, love can break your heart when either one wants to say good bye. Love can set you free, love can also make you sit on a tree, (Shallum can’t help rhyming) Love’s a gamble, Love’s a game We should find each and every opportunity to extract happiness and love and spread it around. So yes all occasions, festivities must be celebrated. About his plans he discloses, “No plans yet I need to ask my friends what they have in mind.”
The singer who’s in search of love
This is a perfect Omer Nadeem example. He claims, “Everything i do is somehow or the other related to love. Love for me is a song, a song which is never ending.” Further adding, “I think every day can be a valentine’s day. Since I am single so the plans you are talking about are impossible for this Valentine’s Day.” With nowhere else to spend this day of love, “I’ll be celebrating my new releases YehDooriyan which is a title track for a Bollywood film and ‘MitJaane De'” says Omer.
The philanthropist who believes in love for all
While other celebrities look at love from a micro perspective, Basit Subhani believes, “Love is a journey. It exists but not understood. The human race is lost without love”. He further goes on to explain, “Love is not just limited to couples, but includes the love of parents for their children, the love friends have for each other and love between siblings.
Love seems to be disappearing from this world. The world is all about wars, killing, and hue. All this is because of one thing and that is “hatred”. It seems as if the whole world has no memory of the word “love”. It is merely a word to the world and nothing more. We should take this day as a wake up call and smell the destruction before it’s too late.”
