Prominent politician Yusuf Haroon dies

UNITED NATIONS – Yusaf Haroon, a prominent Pakistani politician and a close confidant of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, passed away in New York after protracted illness. He was 95. The end came at New York Hospital where he was admitted for the past few months. His wife, Pasha Haroon, was at his side. They had no children.
According to family sources, arrangements were being made to take his body to Karachi, his hometown, for burial. During his long and illustrious career, Haroon served as mayor of Karachi (1944-45), chief minister of Sindh (1949-50) and governor of West Pakistan (1969). He was also a former high commissioner to Australia. In addition, he worked as chief editor of Dawn newspaper.
After settling down in New York a long time ago, he served as an executive of the now defunct PANAM.
