LAHORE – National Bank of Pakistan clinched the 58th National Hockey Championship title and WAPDA secured third place at the Faisalabad Hockey Stadium, Faisalabad, on Sunday. In a tit-for-tat affair, NBP finally prevailed over a fighting PIA to get 4-3 win in front of a large number of fans, former Olympians and international hockey players.
WAPDA defeated SSGC 6-4 to get the third place. PHF president Qasim Zia was the chief guest of the final and distributed prizes among the winners. Also present on the occasion were Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation Asif Bajwa and, Commissioner Faisalabad Syed Tahir Hussain, Dutch coach Pakistan hockey team Michel Heuvel Van Dan, Arshad Ali Chaudhry (Olympian) Member Selection Committee PHF, Pervaiz Bhandara, Anjum Saeed (Olympian), Danish Kaleem (Olympian), Shahbaz Junior (Olympian), Irfan Mehmood (Olympian), Muhammad Usman (Olympian and former captain hockey team), Mansoor Ahmed (Olympian) ex-goal keeper Pakistan team.
Treasurer PHF Khalid Rasool, former Olympian Rana Mujahid Ali, Khalid Bashir (Olympian), Haji Rana Muhammad Mazhar Khan, Malik Shafqat (Olympian) ATD, Umpire Manager Rana Khalid Iqbal, tournament officers Muhammad Shafique Bhatti & Shahid Hussain were also present on the occasion.
Souvenirs were also presented to Qasim Zia, Syed Tahir Hussain, Khalid Bashir and other officials, Shield and cash prize of best player of the tournament was awarded to Shafqat Rasool, captain of PIA team. The third position trophy was lifted by WAPDA, runner up trophy by PIA and winners trophy of 58th National Championship went to National Bank of Pakistan.
In his address, the chief guest thanked the organising committee for holding this big event in such a wonderful way. The results are as follows:
Final: NBP beat PIA 4-3.
NBP: M. Atiq 10th Minute (PC), M. Tousiq 2 goals 41st minute & 48th minute (FG) & Yasir Shabbir 43rd minute (FG).
PIA: Yasir Islam 41st minute (FG), Zaheer Ahmed 49th minute (FG) & Ihsan Ullah 54th minute (PC).
3rd-4th Position: WAPDA beat SSGC 6-4.
WAPDA: Waqas Sharif 3 goals 6th Minute, 25th minute & 49th minute (FG), Sohail Abbas 27th minute (PC), M. Imran 32nd minute (FG) & Rehan Butt 66th minute (FG)
SSGC: Shakeel Abbasi 2 goals 14th minute (FG) & 51st minute (PS), Zeeshan 59th minute (FG) & Arslan Haider Sherazi 61st minute (FG).
