GUJRANWALA – Frontier Works Organization Project Manager Colonel Sibte Hassan Rana has announced to complete eastern bypass of the city by 31st May and revealed that smooth supply of allocated funds will ensure the completion of project within its timeframe.
So far 23% work has been completed and the FWO has been arranging the most modern machinery and workforce to achieve the target. He claimed this during a briefing to media people at its camp office. Colonel Rana briefed the reporters on the history of the project by saying that the eastern bypass project was awarded to the FWO in June 2009 with an estimated cost of Rs460 million to be completed within one year.
He said, unfortunately, the consultant for this project could not be available till March 2010 and the FWO was to suffer a lot during this nine month period as it had mobilised its workforce in July and initial work had also started. Later, the consultant changed the design of the project and enhanced the road width on both the sides from 24 feet to 26 feet. It also enhanced the cost to Rs660 million, he stated. The FWO did a lot of work from March to July 2009 on the bypass road, but the torrential rains, followed by the worst floods in the history, stopped the work and delayed funds.

Sacked cop kills wife, son: A sacked jail guard, a resident of Jamkay Chattha, who had developed illicit relations with his own daughter, stabbed his wife and son to death and threw their dead body into a canal. According to a police source, Ibad Hussain, an axed jail guard, developed illicit relations with his 18-year-old daughter, which sparked a row in the family. On the day of the incident, he took his wife Bushra and 13-yerar-old son Sajjad Hussain outside the house, killed them and threw their bodies into a canal.
Later, he returned home in the evening and told his elder son Ulfat Hussain that they had gone to a nearby village. Ulfat Hussain reported to the police that his mother and brother were missing and doubted that his father had killed them. As the police reached the village, Ibad Hussain disappeared while the dead body of Bushra found from Lower Chenab Canal.
