Car lifting and robbery on the rise

ISLAMABAD – Five people, including a Chinese lady doctor, were killed, 20 vehicles stolen and 10 cases of robbery reported to the city’s police stations last week but no arrests or recoveries were made. In the week before the last, 18 vehicles were stolen and 12 cases of robbery were reported. A Chinese lady doctor was killed at her residence-cum-clinic in sector I-8 Markaz.
Dr Arshad Owais Qazi, director of a special education institute, was stabbed to death at his house in sector G-8/4. Police is clueless to date. “The occurrence of five murders in a week speaks volumes about the performance of police,” said a senior official of police asking not be named. He said that murder cases have increased alarmingly because of the police’s failure to bring the culprits to the court of justice.
According to data gathered by Pakistan Today Margalla Police Station registered four cases of car lifting and Dr Arshad’s murder this week and in the previous week four case of car lifting and a case of robbery. Industrial Area Police Station registered three cases of car lifting, a case of robbery and a case of murder of Chinese doctor while the previous week three cases of car lifting were reported to it.
Carjackers stole three vehicles from the limits of Shalimar Police Station last week while three cases of car lifting and a case of robbery were also registered by it. Carjackers also remained active in the limits of Kohsar Police Station as 3 vehicles were stolen during this week and 2 in the last. Similarly Shahzad Town Police Station registered three cases of car lifting and a case of robbery while Koral Police Station registered two cases of murder and a robbery this week.
