LAHORE – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) made an entry in the political arena of Punjab on Saturday under a new association with the PML-Q to grab position in the local body system, as well as in the provincial assembly.
Sources from both political parties said MQM leaders, including Farooq sattar, Babar Ghouri, Raza Haroon, Wasay Jalil, Qamar Mansoor, Saif Yar Khan and Iftikhar Randhawa would attend a luncheon hosted in their honour by PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain at his residence on Sunday. They further claimed that the MQM leadership would discuss ways to start political campaigns in southern Punjab.
They said another motive of the meeting was finalising areas of cooperation with the PML-Q, as the MQM had announced a power show in Lahore in a gigantic public gathering on April 10. However, prior to that, they have to initiate spade work for the success of the congregation, which needs settlement of modalities with its partner.
PML-Q sources said leaders of both parties would have a media interaction at the Muslim League House where they would disclose some new aspects of their partnership and political strategy for future.
Political pundits have said that keeping in view the possibilities of local bodies polls in Punjab and Sindh, both the MQM and the PML-Q decided to go for a strategic alliance aiming at benefiting from the PPP-PML-N political divide.
