KARACHI – The Malir judicial magistrate on Saturday recovered four men being detained at the Anti-Encroachment police station. Judicial Magistrate Ashfaq Ahmed Mughal paid a surprise visit to the police station and ordered the release of Ayub, Yahya, Jameel and Asif on personal bond since the police had failed to produce any evidence against the four men to justify their stay at the police station.
The judicial magistrate bound the SHO and the duty officer of the police station to appear before the District and Sessions Court on Monday. Hakeemuddin, a relative of the four men, had filed an application in the court of Malir District and Sessions judge, stating that the police had arrested his relatives from Shah Latif Town and were keeping them in illegal detention.
According to the application, the police officers had demanded Rs 100,000 for releasing each person being detained. The applicant implored the court for recovering the detainees. Malir District and Sessions Judge Kausar Ali Bukhari took up the plea and ordered the judicial magistrate to approach the police station.
