Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met) informed that another weather system of moderate intensity, likely to last for 5 to 6 days, has entered Pakistan through Balochistan on Friday and it is expected to grip most parts of the country on Saturday. Under the influence of this weather system, scattered rain with intervals is expected to pour over Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK), Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Saturday to Wednesday. Snowfall of light to moderate intensity is also expected over the hills of upper KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Murree from February 12-16. Isolated rain with showers is also predicted over Sindh on Sunday and Monday. Met office informed that most parts of Balochistan are in the grip of a westerly weather system that has been producing isolated rain of light intensity over some parts of the province for last 36 hours. This weather system is likely to intensify from today onwards that would cause widespread sporadic rains, heavy over northern (Quetta, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Mastung, Sibbi, Kalat, Ziarat and Bolan districts) and some south-western parts (Panjgur, Kharan and Kech districts) of Balochistan on Saturday and Sunday. Isolated heavy falls may generate some flash floods in the local rivers or streams of Balochistan during Saturday evening till Sunday. The rain-fed areas of Rabi crops may receive good rain by this weather system that will be very beneficial for the standing crops. Lahoris hope that Balochistan’s sky would send clouds to Lahore on the weekend. They said that spring rain can really make their weekend memorable. Met Office had already predicted three wet-spells of winter rains and snow during the current month. First spell produced good rains and snow from February 4-7. The second spell has already started, while the third spell is expected during the last week of February.
