Police trained to combat terrorism

GUJRANWALA: Gujranwala Corps Commander Lt-Gen Raheel Sharif has emphasised the importance of specialised training to combat the menace of terrorism. He stated this while addressing a passing-out parade of 6th batch of the 98 Punjab police personnel who were imparted anti-terrorism training by Pakistan Army at Sialkot Cantt. According to an ISPR handout, the corps commander was confident of the capabilities of the trained personnel and hoped the special anti-terrorism training imparted by dedicated army instructors would go a long way in improving the professional prowess of law-enforcing agencies.
He appreciated the dedication, motivation and commitment shown by the police personnel and congratulated all trainees on the successful completion of the training. The chief guest also witnessed a special demonstration of a hostage rescue by a squad of the Punjab police. Gujranwala Corps has completed its mandated target of imparting training to 1,200 police personnel.
Rs 2.36b allocated for Gujranwala division uplift: The provincial government has allocated Rs 2.36 billion for different development schemes in Gujranwala division and directed the administrations of all the six districts to complete these projects on time.
Presiding over a meeting of all the six district coordination officers (DCOs), the commissioner said Rs 752.5 million were allocated for eight new and other running schemes in Gujranwala district, Rs 700 million for 10 schemes of special package in Sialkot, Rs 307.56 million for four schemes in Gujrat, Rs 200 million for five schemes in Mandi Bahauddin, Rs 200 million each for four schemes in Narowal and one scheme in Hafizabad. He urged the DCOs to continuously check the proceedings at these schemes so that wastage of the national kitty could be checked. All these projects are of great importance for the masses as quality assurance will not only enhance the credibility of the concerned officers but also serve the masses for longer period of time.
WASA PLANS TO IMPROVE DRAINAGE SYSTEM: Gujranwala Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has planned to improve drainage system and divided the city into seven zones for the implementation of its master plan. WASA Managing Director Khalid Bashir Butt said the squads of sanitary workers would operate in these zones for eight hours continuously under the supervision of officers concerned. Cleanliness of all disposal works on daily basis would be ensured by a vigilance cell and no one would be spared for negligence, he added.

He urged all parties’ leaders to participate in the round table conference for the sake of country and keep away their personal differences at this historic occasion. The president’s stance of calling the conference is appreciable in the prevailing circumstances and now it is the political forces’ turn to come forward to strengthen the country.
