NEW DELHI: India’s premier civilian investigation agency has estimated that the country’s former Telecom minister A Raja could have received as much as 30 billion rupees ($600 million) as bribe in the 2G spectrum scam, local media reported Friday.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he caused loss to the national exchequer by selling the spectrum at undervalued rates at 400 to 500 billion rupees, ‘The Times of India’ said.
The former minister is currently in the CBI’s custody for his alleged role in the 40 billion US dollar telecom scam. He was arrested on Feb 2 along with two of his former associates. Raja, who is from a small ally party of the Congress, lost his job as the cabinet member last year in the wake of the 2G spectrum scam.
