ISLAMABAD – Requesting the chief justice of Pakistan to take a suo moto notice of the rampant corruption in Balochistan government, opposition leader in the Balochistan Assembly Yar Muhammad Rind on Thursday demanded the right-sizing of provincial cabinet. Talking to Pakistan Today, Yar Muhammad Rind from the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid group demanded of the Pakistan People Party’s central command to immediately implement 18th amendment’s clause regarding the size of federal, provincial cabinets in Balochistan.
“The party’s CEC decision of trimming federal cabinet size in the light of 18th amendment should also be executed by its government in Balochistan,” he said, adding that in the house of 65, 58 MPAs were enjoying ministerial berths. He said after the passage of the 18th amendment, the total strength of the provincial cabinet ‘shall’ not exceed 15 members or 11 percent of the total membership of a Provincial
Assembly.
“Chief Minister Raisani should trim his cabinet to the strength of 15 or 7 which is the 11 percent of the total membership of Balochistan Assembly that stands 65,” he demanded. Even though the clause is not legally binding before the next election, but if the centre can implement it so can the provinces, he said. He said some ministers in Balochistan were working sans portfolios while some ministries had been bifurcated to accommodate coalition partners.
“Balochistan chief minister says that his government is running smoothly, of course it will, since all ministers are from his coalition parties,” he added. He said that he was one and only member sitting on the opposition benches in the Balochistan assembly. “Though two independent MPAs including Al-Syed Abdul Qadir Algillani and Mir Muhammad.
