KARACHI – An alleged terrorist responsible for instigating a number of bomb blasts in the city has been arrested, law enforcers claimed on Thursday. Police is likely to reveal the arrest of the suspect, Qari Aleem, in a couple of days at a press conference, sources informed Pakistan Today.
On the other hand, a senior intelligence agency official said that Aleem was previously arrested and then released after a Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) cleared all charges against him. The official believes that the arrest is a desperate attempt by law enforcers to fake their competence. Law enforcers claimed raiding a house in Scout Colony on Abul Hassan Ispahani Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on a tip-off and capturing Aleem with a cache of weapons.
He was then transferred to an undisclosed location where a JIT, comprising members of Inter-Services Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, Rangers Intelligence and Special Police, would extract information from him. Police said that the suspected terrorist belonged to Mastooj tehsil and had received militancy training in Waziristan.
They said that Aleem is believed to be responsible for the Ashura blast on December 28, 2009 as well as the terrorist attack on the Chehlum procession last year. The suspect is said to be the ringleader of under-trial prisoners who had escaped from the City Court on June 21 last year.
