LAHORE – A Punjab University (PU) spokesman on Thursday termed the PUASA’s press conference baseless and false, saying that senior teachers had distorted facts and that they were trying to bring a bad name to the institution.
The spokesman said that the university administration ensured objectivity and merit and usually the ‘one man one post policy’ is followed but due to some unavoidable circumstances, the varsity sometimes has to give additional charge to anyone according to his ability and capacity.
A PU official, seeking anonymity, said that the PUASA tried to save the skin of PU Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) Director Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz who is facing charges of corruption and appreciated the role of the PU VC who according to him is taking steps against corruption. He said that why did not the PUASA president speak on issue of the ICS director and condemn corruption in PhD exams.
The official said that it seems the PUASA president is demanding the VC to allow all pro-Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Islami Jamiat-e-Talba (IJT) teachers to do corruption and said that if the PUASA president is an honest man then he should first protest against corruption at the ICS and demand sacking of Naz.
He said that all teaches know that the PUASA president’s role is biased in case of corruption of pro-JI and IJT teachers. The PU official said that the VC is playing into hands of a retired army man, who should be replaced by a faculty member.
