Masood sworn in as KP governor


PESHAWAR – Amidst the slogans of “Long Live Bhutto,” Barrister Masood Kausar was administered oath as the 28th governor of Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa, replacing Engineer Owais Ahmad Ghani on Thursday. Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan administered oath to Masood Kausar.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti was also present. The oath-taking ceremony was arranged in the lawns inside the Governor’s House and it was attended by hundreds of PPP stalwarts and workers. After the late Naseerullah Khan Babar who served the province as its governor in mid 70s, Barrister Masood Kausar became third one from PPP while the late Hayat Muhammad Khan Sherpao was the first-ever PPP governor of the province.
PPP stalwarts and workers were unable to control their emotions when the oath-taking ceremony started and even during the National Anthem, they chanted slogans of “Long Live Bhutto”. They also chanted slogans in favour of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari.
The ceremony was also attended by provincial ministers, the judges of Peshawar High Court, IGP Fayaz Khan Toru, lawyers, Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Siraj-ul-Haq of JI, former KP governor Lt-Gen (retd) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah and ANP leaders also attended the oath-taking ceremony.
Later, talking to reporters, Barrister Masood Kausar said, “Return of peace and development of the tribal region will be on top of his priority.” He said that Pakhtuns of this region had suffered a lot, so he would try his best to mitigate such sufferings. He said that he maximum efforts to ensure justice to tribesmen in accordance with the political philosophy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and guidelines of Benazir Bhutto.
