ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday raided the house of former religious affairs minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi after a local court issued his arrest warrants. Senior Civil Judge Muhammad Alam Gondal issued Kazmi’s arrest warrants after the Supreme Court ordered legal action against the former minister on FIA’s stance that there was enough evidence of his involvement in the Haj scam. However, the FIA failed to arrest Kazmi at his house.
“Raids to nab the former minister will continue. According to our information, he has left for Multan, where officials concerned have been directed to serve him the arrest warrants,” a source in the FIA said. The source said Kazmi could not prove any evidence to legitimise his foreign currency accounts worth $24,000.
“FIA has enough evidence that Kazmi was instrumental in the appointment of Ahmad Faiz, the main culprit operating from Jeddah, and with whom the minister remained in constant touch,” added the source. The source further said if Kazmi was not arrested within seven days of the issuance of his warrants, FIA would move the court to seek a proclamation order.
