Khosa says Basant may be celebrated if…

LAHORE – Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa has showed conditional readiness to celebrate Basant. He said if the Basant committee assured restriction on use of chemical and metallic twine and arms, Basant could be celebrated.
At the inaugural ceremony of Tulip Flower Show at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Lahore on Wednesday, Punjab Governor told the media that Basant reservations should be considered. He said the event could be celebrated but only in a safe manner, after ensuring people’s safety.
Basant festivities depicted different colors of joy and were liked by every one and he too wanted to join Mian Nawaz Sharif for celebrating Basant, but lives should be wasted at any cost, he maintained. The governor said he had only put forward his own perspective and every one had the right to criticise. They will solve every issue with proper understanding, he added.
He said that President Asif Ali Zardri called a conference to discuss the issues faced by the people to come up with better solutions. Khosa commented on the tulip show by saying that such events presented a soft image of Pakistan. He said he had also directed students to come forward for planting trees and flowers to restore the beauty of Lahore, which had been marred by violence.
Earlier at the Governor’s House, addressing the injured that have been discharged from the Mayo Hospital, he said Islam condemned extremism and gave a lesson of love, peace and harmony. The governor had invited the victims and had held the occasion in their honour. Governor said Pakistan was the land of saints, who preached brotherhood, and majority of the Pakistanis believed in the way of the Prophet (PBUH).
He said no terrorist element was present for the independence of Pakistan, which was attained after a series of sacrifices. He expressed his pleasure for having the company of such brave and courageous people and said this was the public’s Governor’s House. He thanked people, as they gave him the opportunity to serve as the governor.
