ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to plant 500,000 saplings during the upcoming spring tree plantation campaign. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi on Wednesday. The meeting, besides reviewing progress on ‘Clean and Green Islamabad’ campaign launched in 2008, also fixed targets for the upcoming spring plantation drive.
According to a press statement, 180,000 saplings will be planted in the urban areas of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) including all major avenues, green belts, parks, playfields, new sectors (G-13, H-11, I-14, I-16 and D-12) and Islamabad Highway. The meeting decided that 320,000 saplings would be planted in Margallah Hills National Park and Simly Dam catchment areas. The meeting also decided to observe ‘Public Tree Plantation Day’ during the third week of the current month with the help of citizens, traders, educational institutions, NGOs and environmentalists.
