LAHORE – No load shedding is being carried out for domestic consumers, as the power shortfall has decreased, Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Energy and Management Conservation (EMC) Director General Muhammad Khalid said on Tuesday at a press conference.
He said that presently power production stands at 10,826MW and demand 11,227MW while power shortfall is 401MW. Khalid said that the power shortfall has decreased over the last few days due to better production and less demand. Explaining break-up of power production, the PEPCO DG said that 4,382MW are being produced through hydel generation, 4,922MW from Independent Power Plants (IPP), 1,407MW from thermal and 62MW from rental power plants (RPP).
Khalid said that hydel generation remained good during the last month.
“Presently, Tarbela Dam is producing 2,058MW and Mangla 690MW,” he said adding that by next year, hydel generation would increase further and around 217MW would be added to the national grid.
He said that two towers were blown up in Balochistan during a terrorist attack on February 4 while a 220-KV grid station was damaged on February 5. He said that in both incidents, damaged equipment has been repaired.
