LAHORE – Judicial Magistrate Irfan Basra on Tuesday issued a proclamation for the arrest of Chaudhry Moonis Elahi for his alleged involvement in the National Insurance Corporation Limited scam. The court adjourned further proceedings until March 11 and directed for affixing the summons outside Moonis’ residence and publishing advertisements in newspapers to inform the accused.
The court declared that if the accused did not appear in court at the next date of hearing, all his property would be confiscated. Earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Punjab filed an application in court, submitting that Moonis was one of the key accused in the NICL scam and the court had already issued his arrest warrant, but he was not joining investigations despite receiving various summons.
Per details, the FIA came into action and arrested Habibullah Warraich after the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of the alleged corruption of 1.68 billion in NICL. Warraich, who was a minister of state during Musharraf’s rule, is accused of purchasing hundreds of acres of government land at throwaway prices and selling it to the NICL at ten times the cost price.
Warraich also got a bank loan of Rs 550 million and defaulted.
