LTC’s taxi scheme in the making

LAHORE – The Lahore Transport Company (LTC) has taken steps to regulate and organize a taxi system in the city, which LTC says will make for a safer, affordable, efficient and environment friendly mode of transport, Pakistan Today learnt on Tuesday.
The plan has only been approved by the LTC’s GM Operations and GM Enforcement, so it still has to be approved by the board of directors. The scheme will be open to people interested in investing as Taxi Operators.
Main Features:
1- Minimum of 25 taxi fleet per operator.
2- Taximeter and Mobile Data Terminal in Taxi.
3- Web based access to control room.
4- Punjab Government regulated fixed fare.
Fare charged: Rs 60 for first three kilometers and Rs7
for every half kilometer after that.
5- Potential bidders will be selected based on their proposals.
6- Taxi flag post at busy locations to facilitate taxi operator/driver.
7- Strict enforcement against illegal taxis in Lahore.
8- Rs 200,000 for taxi dispatch and monitoring software will be
paid to prospective operators.
9- BOT based Pick and Drop points (flag posts). Revenue generated
from advertisement at these posts will be utilized
for project financing.
10- RFP documents: proposal submission with model type, year
and any other requirement of the operator.
11- Manufacturing year should not exceed three years for
an 800 CC vehicle, four years for 1000 CC and five years
for a 1300 CC vehicle.
12- Taxis must have taxi company name, availability of fare
notification, taximeter signage on vehicle, cleanliness,
yellow colour code and taxi signage on the roof.
13- Tamper proof taximeter.
