Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has slammed studio bosses behind acclaimed boxing film ‘The Fighter,’ insisting they refused her an interview because she’s a woman. Hardwicke was in control of the hugely successful first installment of the vampire series and helmed the highly-anticipated big screen retelling of the ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ fairy tale.
But Hardwicke insists that despite her successes behind the camera, sexism in Hollywood still stops her getting jobs – explaining how chiefs behind Mark Wahlberg’s Oscar-nominated film only had male directors on their shortlist.
She tells, “I couldn’t get an interview even though my last movie made $400 million. I was told it had to be directed by a man – am I crazy? It’s about action, it’s about boxing, so a man has to direct it… But they’ll let a man direct ‘Sex in the City’ or any girly movie you’ve ever heard of.”
