KARACHI – An exhibition of artworks of Asif Ahmed titled ‘From the Same Story’ opened at the Chawkandi Art gallery on Tuesday, a press release issued by the gallery said.
“Traditional art itself is the most important subject of discussion in my work,” Ahmed said about his current art show.
The artist meticulously produces drawings and miniatures. The connection between the images for him is a means to question the traditional art values and practices, and their role in the contemporary art world today. “In the content of the artwork, transformation of traditional miniature imagery is an important part for me,” Ahmed said.
He has borrowed traditional icons from historical miniature paintings and transformed these visuals by juxtaposing, overlapping and superimposing different images from different times. This exhibition, which is an effort with a questioning attitude about the exploitation of traditional art in the modern world, is running until February 16.
