Australia to launch review of Ashes debacle

MELBOURNE – Cricket Australia (CA) will launch a review of the team’s performance and the governance of the sport later this month after the 3-1 Ashes loss to England. England held on to the coveted urn after handing out three innings defeats to Australia in the five-test series victory that concluded last month.
“The reviews will get underway once the terms of reference, scope and timelines have been finalised by the independent consultants to be engaged by the board,” CA chairman Jack Clarke said in a statement on Tuesday. “We intend to have the reviews completed by our annual general meeting in October.
“We will confirm the names of review participants once the scoping has been agreed and before they start discussions with the wide range of stakeholders involved in the respective issues.”
The sport’s governing body in the country, including the national selectors,
has received a lot of flak lately for issues ranging from mistreatment of players to confusing selections, particularly during the Ashes defeat. However the one-day side rebounded to thrash England 6-1 ahead of their bid to win a fourth successive World Cup later this month in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
