PESHAWAR – As many as four NATO oil tankers and nine other vehicles were destroyed when an explosive device planted in an oil tanker exploded at Pak-Afghan Highway in the outskirts of Peshawar on Tuesday, officials and locals said.
The oil tankers, carrying fuel for the allied forces stationed in Afghanistan, were parked at Karkhano Market, about 10km outside the city. After the explosion, other oil tankers and vehicles also caught fire. Two people were injured in the incident; however, the hospital sources stated that their condition was out of danger.
The Pak-Afghan Highway had been closed for all kinds of traffic because of a search operation in the Khyber Agency.
