PESHAWAR – Militants fired rockets and bullets on a police patrol van in Balyamina area of District Hangu on Monday, killing at least two policemen including a sub inspector. The ambush left seven policemen injured. The District Police Officer Abdul Rashid Khan told Pakistan Today that militants hiding in mountains fired five rockets on the police when they were passing through a road linking Samana and Orakzai Agency.
The rockets were followed by firing with sophisticated weapons. The injured were admitted at a hospital in Hangu where condition of some was stated to be precarious. Following the attack, police conducted a search operation in the area and arrested a few suspects.
AFP ADDS: Taliban spokesman Azam Tariq claimed the attack in Balyamina and said: “Our attacks will continue until (US) drone attacks and operations in tribal areas, which are killing innocent people, are stopped.”
