LAHORE – Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa on Monday said the provincial ministers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would not stage any protest, adding that there were some misunderstandings and reservations, which would hopefully addressed soon.
It is pertinent to recall that provincial Senior Minister Raja Riaz had announced Saturday to hold a sit-in in front of the Punjab Assembly if the provincial govt failed to reply positively to the 19-point agenda.
Khosa while talking to the media on the concluding ceremony of Punjab National Junior Squash Championship said, “We (politicians) are the protectors of democracy,” adding that peaceful protest was the part of democracy.
He said some reservations of the PPP’s ministers had been ignored but consultations were going on for resolving the matter in a subtle manner.
He said a governor did not involve himself in controversial issues, but if required, he could play his role for bringing improvement in government’s working.
Khosa was of the view that the PPP wanted a congenial relationship with the Punjab government for a peaceful environment in the interest of the people.
The reconciliation process in the province would continue to solve the problems of masses and strengthen democracy, he added. He said all the appointments in the Prosecution Department would be made as per fixed formula.
