Govt school headmistress suspended

HAFIZABAD – Taking notice of a torture incident in a government school, Hafizabad Executive District Officer (Education) Sohail Azhar Khan suspended Headmistress Ghulam Sughran and constituted an enquiry committee to probe into the matter.
Reportedly, Rubina, a teacher at Government Community Model Primary School Marh Bashi, found Rs 500 missing from her purse on the other day and suspected that Yasmin, a student of class three, had stolen the money. Rubina and the headmistress took the student to a classroom where they allegedly tortured her with sticks.
Later, the teachers warned the students that they would be expelled from the school if they did not bring Rs 500 with them the next day. When the EDO received the information about the torture, he visited the school accompanied by District Education Officer Amjid Raheem Sudal and DEO (Female) Afshan Zafar and suspended the headmistress of the school and constituted an enquiry committee comprising DEOs and Pindi Bhattian Deputy District Officer Bushra Khalid to probe the matter.
The EDO said that torture on students would not be tolerated at all and implementation on government policies would be ensured in the district.
He added that the Punjab government was spending Rs 400 million to promote education and ensure 100 percent enrollment of the children up to 5 years of age. He urged teachers to comply with the directions of the high ups to achieve the goal of the educated Punjab.
Asif takes charge as Hafizabad DCO: Newly-appointed Hafizabad DCO, Muhammad Asif, assumed the charge of his post. District Executive Officer (Revenue) Khawar Kamal, Deputy Director Information Syed Iftikhar Ali Shah and other officers called on him in his office and briefed him about the performance of their respective departments.
The DCO said that solving the problems of the general public would be his top priority and the people’s opinion and proposals would be respected in the larger interest of the masses. He added that all possible efforts would be made to address the people’s grievances for the improvement of different departments and completion of development schemes according to the prescribed standard.
He further said the attendance of the staff in the offices, particularly, the attendance of teachers in the educational institution would be ensured.
