NEW YORK – Cult hit sit-com ‘Arrested Development’ is set to come to the big screen with creator Mitch Hurwitz confirming that he is writing the film’s script. The sitcom about a formerly wealthy and dysfunctional family, starring Jason Bateman, Portia De Rossi and Michael Cera, stopped airing in 2006 and fans have been hoping for a movie ever since.
“Our fans have been so supportive and we’re so grateful, so I kind of hate to answer the question until I can say, ‘Yes, we’ve shot it, it opens next week’. Otherwise it feels like we are toying with people and we do not mean to do that. It has just taken a while to get it going,” said Hurwitz. In February 2009, it was first reported that breakout star Michael Cera was a roadblock to the film.
In June 2010, star David Cross said it was not happening, but after Serafinowicz, and earlier, Ron Howard, gave fans hope, the film is finally happening.
