LAHORE – Shoaib Bokhari played quality golf for an outward half of 36 and inward half of 37 to win the 5th Infotech Golf Tournament contested at the par 72 Royal Palm Golf Course on Sunday.
Bokhari outpointed 91 ardent golf competitors and what made Shoaib more creditable was the fact that his nearest rivals Mohsen Zafar and Faisal Ali Malik were equally forceful and fierce competitors and appeared as hot contenders right till the very end, but then failed to place their 12 footer putts into the hole and had to lose by a nominal margin.
In this gross event Shoaib Bokhari played a gross 73, followed by Mohsen Zafar 75, Faisal Ali Malik 78, Sardar Murad 79, Sohail Rana 79 and Ashfaq lone, also 79. In the race for net honors, the participants have shown a lot of consistency and as a result a number of ardent ones could not make it to the winning line, even though their scores reflected a touch of brilliance.
The youngest golfer in this competition, Mahad Zafar carded a net 68 and remained a model of consistency all through the game, yet completely missed out the victory stand. Also disappointed was Haroon Arshed who virtually ended up the same way even with a net 68 score. The ultimate winner in the net section turned out to be Faisal Iqbal with a net score of 5 under par 67 and this upcoming golfer continues to show his potential and regularly tips the scales in his favour by harmonious hitting.
The runner-up net was awarded to Abbas Ali Khan whose performance was impressive and he had a score similar to that of the net winner, Faisal Iqbal but lost to him on the count back, as per rules of the competition. In the events for golfers in the handicap category 15 and above, the stars of the competition were Maqboo (Max) Babri and Nadeem in the net section and Asadullah Khan and Umar Ahsan Dar in the gross section.
Prizes for nearest to pin went to Haider Rasul Malhi, for longest drive to Sohail Rana and maximum birdies to Mahad Zafar. At the conclusion of the tournament the prizes were awarded to the winners by Naseer Akhter, CEO Infotech and Lt. Gen(r) Muhammed Tariq.
