More rain, snow, likely today

ISLAMABAD – More rain and snowfall is expected in the hills over the next 24 hours, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted on Sunday. An official of the Met Office told APP that the western disturbance ,affecting central and upper parts of the country, will persist for next 24-48 hours which will cause rain/snowfall over the hills at isolated places in upper Punjab, North-Balochistan, and at a number of places in Kyhyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Monday.
Isolated showers are also expected in Islamabad on Monday and there are chances of snowfall over hills in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree and Galliyat during the period. Met Office has also issued a warning of landslide on major roads in Murree.
The official said the rain spell will cast positive impact on crops. The weather system will subside on Tuesday and weather will remain dry after that.
The official said that more rains are likely to occur this month as two more spells are predicted in February which will be fruitful for the agriculture sector. It rained 47 mm in Pattan, 21 mm in Balakot, 18 mm in Swat and Abbotabad, 8 mm in Risalpur, 14 mm in Malamjabba on Sunday while in Kalam it snowed 4.5 inches and 1 inch in Skardu. Many tourists were seen visiting these areas to enjoy the snowfall.
SINDH: Dry weather is likely to persist in most parts of Sindh during next few days. However, isolated light rain may occur over upper Sindh during next 24 hours.
BALOCHISTAN: Many parts of the province, particularly northern Balochistan received rains on Sunday which also continued lashing at night. Rain was reported from Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Toba Kakari, Toba Achakzai, Ziarat, Killa Saifullah, Zhob, Muslim Bagh, Mastung, Dasht, Kolpur, Mach and other areas. Light snowfall was also reported from high altitude parts of northern Balochistan.
Minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday were Islamabad 7 C, Lahore 12 C, Quetta 3 C, Karachi 18 C, Peshawar 11 C, Muzaffarabad 8 C, Gilgit -1, Multan 10 C, Murree 2 C, Faisalabad 10 C and the lowest minimum recorded in Gupis was -5 C.
