GUJRANWALA – An elderly woman was crushed under a train and a police constable sacrificed his life while trying to rescue her at the railway crossing near Sheranwala Park. Reportedly, an unidentified old woman, unaware of the arrival of a train, tried to cross the rail line near the secondhand clothing bazaar situated on both the sides of the track.
Constable Azeeb Khalid rushed to rescue her and both were crushed by Quetta-bound Jafer Express. The woman died instantly while Constable Azeeb Khalid Khan was injured and rushed to the DHQ hospital in critical condition from where he was referred to General Hospital Lahore, but could not survive. CPO Ghulam Mahmood Dogar announced Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal for the courageous move of the constable and paid rich tribute to him.
TWO KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENTS: A child and an old man were crushed to death in separate road accidents in the city. Reportedly, four-year-old Zain son of Asif was crushed to death by an out-of-control tractor-trailler on Sialkot Road near Mughal Chowk. The driver fled away after the accident while the residents blocked the road in protest.
In the other accident, a speeding van crushed an unidentified old man in Climaxabad. The body of the deceased was shifted to the morgue of the DHQ hospital.
