ISLAMABAD – The government’s financial team, headed by Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, will on Tuesday present to the PML-N a list of corrupt officials that have been sacked by the government, Pakistan Today learnt on Sunday. A source in the PML-N said apart from the list of sacked corrupt government officials, the ministerial committee would also hand over a list of persons and companies whose loans were written-off since 1985.
“After receiving the two lists, the PML-N committee will point out the names of those corrupt government officials who are still holding office,” said a PML-N leader, adding that the party would also scrutinize list of written-off loans. Meanwhile, after a briefing by his party committee tomorrow (Tuesday), PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif will give instructions to the Senator Ishaq Dar-led team to get the 10-point agenda implemented at the most by February 22, so that the party could avoid taking any extreme step against the PPP government.
A PML-N meeting is scheduled tomorrow in which the committee negotiating with the government’s team would brief Nawaz on the progress made on the 10-point agenda so far. “The PML-N committee will inform Nawaz about the possibility of implementing the agenda in the remaining 14 days. The party chief has already directed the committee members to get maximum points of PML-N’s agenda implemented in the days left,” a PML-N leader said.
He said if the government failed to implement the agenda, the party will summon its Central Organising Committee after February 23 to chalk out a future strategy vis-a-vis PPP government. “The decision regarding the ouster of PPP ministers from the Punjab cabinet will also be decided in that meeting. The party’s COC will also finalise its strategy regarding the unification bloc and if the PML-N is compelled by the PPP to oust its ministers from the provincial cabinet, its speaker in the Punjab Assembly can notify a separate parliamentary status for the unification bloc,” the PML-N leader added.
The source said the party had decided in principle not respond to Raja Riaz’s 19-point agenda. “It is a drama, nothing tangible. The PPP ministers should first quit the provincial cabinet, only then they have a right to forward such demands to the Punjab government,” said a PML-N leader. Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the government team was showing progress on implementing all 10-points presented by the PML-N. “But, I cannot say if the agenda would be implemented by February 22,” he said.
