Annual Sports Day at Salamat School

LAHORE – Students at Salamat Elemetry School, Gulberg enjoyed pleasant weather this Sunday laced with a flavour of victory. 220 students and their parents participated in the Annual Sports Day event of the pre-school held at Ali Institute of Education. Dr Nayyar, renowned peace activist, visiting prof of physics at LUMS and a visiting scientist at Princeton University America, was chief guest at the occasion.
Children, aged between 3 to 6 years, had a memorable Sunday making a mark at the racing tracks; building towers and exhibiting speed and flexibility during gymnastics and aerobics competitions. One of the most interesting games was a relay race where Playgroup students ran towards their fathers with balloons between their legs. The balloons were handed out by their mothers at the starting line.
In similar games, students ran with prams and stuffed toys in their hands, dashed through the hurdles and sprinted with their fellows with blocks on their laps. The day ended with a tug of war competition between mothers and teachers in which teachers showed more strength than mothers and won. All of these amusing games were designed by the creative minds of games teacher Talat Ahmed and gymnastics instructor Aftab Mirza. “We don’t want to repeat our games”, says Iffat Mirza, Principal of the Salamat Elementary School.
According to her, every year, an entirely different set of games is designed which ensures maximum participation of students and their families. Talha Anwer, grade 1, won the prize of Best Athlete and Best Gymnast for the school. Not only parents but grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins were present amongst the cheering crowd.
