LAHORE – In a new development in the Raymond Davis case, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Saturday that the US national, involved in a double murder case, has disclosed names of people traveling in the car that ran over a motorcyclist at the Qartaba Chowk some days ago.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said that the car was parked at the US Consulate and police know about its number plate. “On failing to produce the car and its riders, those behind the case will be responsible for all damages, one-sided challan will be submitted and arrest warrants will also be issued in this regard,” the law minister warned.
It does not matter whether Davis cooperates with the investigation team, the Punjab government has solid evidences in the double murder case and the American has confessed the murders and the killing instrument has also been seized, he added.
“Every citizen has the right of self-defence but there are several requirements for claim of self-defence. If those requirements have been met, the US national can use them in court,” Sanaullah said adding that the court could decide Davis’ diplomatic immunity if applicable.
The law minister said that if Davis had presented the certificate regarding diplomatic immunity at time of arrest, police and the Punjab government would have respected it and managed the case accordingly. But neither a certificate nor claim of diplomatic immunity was presented to law enforcement agencies, he added. Sanaullah said that no American pressure would be allowed to influence the case.
