CJP spends busy day in India

HYDERABAD DACCAN – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who is on a visit to India in connection with the 17th Commonwealth Law Conference in India’s Hyderabad Deccan, spent a busy day on Saturday.
He participated in the patron chief justices’ meeting of the Commonwealth member states. The meeting discussed many important professional issues related to the functioning of judiciary and the Commonwealth. Chief Justice of India Justice SH Kapadia and former attorney general Soli Sohrab Jee called on Justice Iftikhar and discussed the issues of mutual interests.
The chief justice also attended a reception dinner held in the honour of the delegations of Commonwealth countries. The formal opening of the conference is scheduled to be held today (Sunday). Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the conference as the chief guest.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on ‘Emerging Economies and the Rule of Law: Challenges and Opportunities’.
