Three doctors running entire Gulab Devi Hospital

LAHORE – The Gulab Devi Hospital is being run by 3 doctors in evening and night shifts and there are only 50 medical officers and 9 house officers to treat more than 1,800 to 2,000 patients around the clock, which is a sheer violation of regulations of the PMDC and a great injustice with patients.
Usually during night shifts in many wards, there is not even a single nurse. YDA Office Bearers including Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Aslam Rao, Dr Talha Sherwani and Dr Nazim Ali have demanded the board of management of the Gulab Devi hospital to recruit more doctors, nurses and paramedical staff and at least ensure that criterion of the PMDC are fulfilled.
According to the PMDC, in a 1,800 bed hospital where 2,000 patients are admitted, there should be at least 360 house officers and 600 medical officers and the hospital administration is committing a gross negligence by running the hospital with such a minimum numbers of doctors. Recently, a new emergency block was inaugurated at the hospital but the number of doctors is the same and this new building would only be able to provide best services to the public if competent doctors are there too but the hospital administration is still to recruit new doctors.
YDA Office Bearers have appealed to the Punjab CM and Lahore High Court chief justice to take notice of the situation.
