ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court Friday adjourned for indefinite period the hearing on a plea against eligibility of Interior Minister Rehman Malik. The court decided to adjudicate on the plea after decision on pending review petition against the judgment on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
A two-member bench comprising Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Tariq Parvez, was hearing a petition challenging eligibility of Interior minister Rehman Malik. Advocate-on-record (AOR) Arshad Ali Chaudhry AOR told the court that Malik was convicted by an accountability court, but because of NRO, his sentence was abolished.
He said after the Supreme Court declared the NRO unconstitutional, his conviction stood revived. Justice Tariq Parvez noted that since the review petition against the NRO judgment was pending, thus the plea against Rehman Malik’s eligibility would be decided after decision on the pending review plea against the NRO verdict. Meanwhile, the court adjourned further hearing for indefinite period.
