No shortage of fertilisers: Durrani

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Industries and Production Dr Ayat Ullah Durrani, on Friday, informed the Upper House of the Parliament that the government has taken timely measures to meet domestic fertiliser requirement. He claimed that sufficient fertilisers are present in the country.
He stated that the country has adequate urea stock as it is producing about 5.4 million tonnes, while the total demand is around 6.4 million tonnes. He stressed that the demand gap is being filled through imports. He said that fertiliser prices are high as factories are not producing urea up to their capacity due to gas curtailment. Fertiliser factories of the country have a capacity to produce about 6.7 million tonnes of fertiliser, he added.
The Minister said that around 63,000 tonnes of urea are allocated for flood victims in the government stock. He assured that the house price of urea will stabilise after gas is supplied to factories. The minister further said that the government is currently providing a subsidy of Rs 320 on a urea bag.
