Lifetime’s ‘William & Kate’ biopic Casts Kate

LOS ANGELES – A relatively unknown British actress has been cast to play Prince William’s fiancee Kate Middleton in a TV film of Britain’s upcoming royal wedding, a movie executive said. Camilla Luddington, whose previous appearances have mostly been in US TV series, will play Middleton in “William and Kate,” the story of the couple’s relationship after they met as students in Scotland.
“We have cast Camilla Luddington to play Kate Middleton,” said Frank Konigsberg of the planned film, being produced by US television network Lifetime. It also stars New Zealand-born actor Nico Evers Swindell as Prince William, and British actor Ben Cross as William’s father Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne. A summary of the movie says it “chronicles the history of William and Kate – from the moment the two students met at Scotland’s prestigious University of St. Andrews.”
This includes “through the ups and downs of their nine-year courtship complicated by social and Royal Family pressures, and intense global media attention surrounding their storybook nuptials,” it added. Luddington is slim, with long brown hair and hazel eyes, according to her resume on industry website IMDb, where she says she can sing and likes cycling, swimming, rollerblading and aerobics.
She can do British or Australian accents. Prince William and Middleton, 29, announced their engagement last November, and are due to marry at London’s Westminster Abbey on April 29.
