ISLAMABAD – Justice Javed Iqbal, a senior Supreme Court judge on Friday took oath as the acting chief justice after the incumbent CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry left for India to attend an international conference. Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan administered the oath. Justice Javed Iqbal will be working as acting CJP until Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry returns after attending the 17th Commonwealth Law Conference in Hyderabad, India.
The Supreme Court judges, Attorney General of Pakistan, senior lawyers and officers of the Law, Justice Commission of Pakistan and the staff of the Supreme Court were also present at the oath taking ceremony. Dr Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court, conducted the proceedings.
