LAHORE – Cancer is the second biggest killer in Pakistan, participants of the third National Cancer Surgery Conference said on Saturday. In the last 3 days, eminent surgeons from the UK, US and different cities of Pakistan showed state-of-art operations to more than 200 surgeons.
On Saturday, around 55 surgeons presented their research papers with 500 doctors participating. During the mid-session there was a debate on “Why are we not getting optimal results from cancer surgery”. The session was concluded by Professor Sadaqat Ali Khan, vice president of the Surgical Oncology Society Pakistan (SOS-PK) who said that there should be a tumor registry in each hospital and training workshops in remote areas of the country.
SOS-PK President Professor Arshad Cheema suggested that there should be more specialised cancer centers such as the PIC, SKMH and Inmol.
