Widow gang-raped for rejecting marriage proposal

SAHIWAL – Two brothers raped a widow when she rejected a marriage proposal from one of them. Reportedly, Ashiq, a resident of Chak No 107/12L, wanted to marry Naseem, the widow of Saeed. On her refusal, Ashiq, along with his brother, abducted Naseem and took her to some unknown place where she was raped by both of them.
SAHIWAL WILL GET MODEL BAZAAR: The Punjab government will establish model bazaars in all big cities of the province to provide essential commodities at cheep rates. One such bazaar will be set up in Sahiwal for which Rs 50 million have already been released by the provincial government. Sahiwal Division Commissioner Tariq Mahmood Khan said this while visiting Old GTS bus stand, the site proposed for the bazaar. He said 150 shops would be set up in this bazaar and all necessary facilities like parking and toilets would be provided there.
He directed the building department to prepare the detailed drawing in such a way that people should be facilitated to the maximum. He said prices of essential commodities would be monitored by a special committee of notables from the city. MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH: Sahiwal Additional District and Sessions Judge Khawaja Zafar Iqbal awarded capital punishment to a killer. According to the prosecution, Murtaza stopped a land lord, Iftikhar of Chak No 76/5R, from taking possession of a disputed land and murdered him on November 9, 2007 over resistance.
Police submitted a challan in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Khawaja Zafar Iqbal. The court awarded death sentence to Murtaza and a fine of Rs 50 thousand to be paid to the heirs of Iftikhar Ahmed. Two co-accused Nouraiz and Shakoor, were acquitted by the court, giving them the benefit of the doubt.
TWO KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENTS: Two people were killed in separate road incidents. In the first incident, a speedy car hit two people on Harappa-Sahiwal Road near Chak No 10/6R, killing one of them instantly and injuring the other. The injured was taken to the district headquarters hospital. In the second incident, a speedy car collided with a tractor-trailer near Chak No 16/12L. Resultantly, Zeeshan who was traveling in the car died instantly.
PAY RAISE DEMANDED: Hundreds of employees in the sessions and civil courts staged a rally to press for their demand of increase in salaries. Reportedly, the employees took out a procession and boycotted the courts. They were holding banners and raising slogans in support of their demand. They demanded of the authorities to raise their salaries as had been done in the case of employees in the high courts and the Supreme Court.
The warned protest and boycott of courts would continue till the acceptance of their demands.
