GUJRANWALA – Deputy District Officer (Revenue) Sara Qureshi led a restoration operation at Qila Mian Singh and retrieved from the mafia 14 kanals of government land allocated for a public park.
Reportedly, DCO Nabil Ahmad Awan issued directives for this operation and Sara Qureshi along with Naib Tehsildar Mian Nazir, Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Aslam Ghuman and police force launched an operation and retrieved the public property. Khiali Shahpur TMA will now establish a park at this place and the section concerned has been directed to start work on the project as early as possible. The divisional commissioner, at a meeting, ordered the revenue department to submit a report on the government land illegally occupied by the land mafia.
WASA OVERCOMES MONETARY CRISIS: Gujranwala Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has come out of crisis after the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department paid it Rs 130 million as urban immovable property tax. This tax was deducted from the property tax of the sanitation services and the department had not been paying it to the WASA for more than two years. After getting the amount, the WASA would be able to pay its electricity bills for coming months and its defaulted amount as well.
GCCI DEMANDS PROBE INTO GAS CUT: Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Sheikh Sarwat Ikram expressed concerns over the disconnection of gas supply to some of the industrial units to cope with the gas shortage in the city. Sheikh demanded the high-ups of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) probe the matter as industrialists had been suffering seriously by this act of officials without any prior notice or information.
He said production from such units would suffer badly due to this illogical step and there should be bilateral liaison with the GCCI to chalk out any strategy for tackling this situation.
