KARACHI – Holding former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf responsible for the murder of Benazir Bhutto, her father-in-law Hakim Ali Zardari said on Thursday that it is unlikely that the culprits involved in the killing of the PPP leader would be arrested.
“Pervez Musharraf is involved in Benazir’s murder. He has escaped [from the country], and he [still] enjoys America’s support. And [in this situation] there is least hope that Benazir’s murderers would be arrested,” he said while talking to the media at the residence of the former managing director of the Port Qasim Authority, Abdul Sattar Dero. President Asif Ali Zardari’s father visited Dero’s residence to offer fateha following the death of the latter’s mother.
It was his first public appearance and conversation with the media after a long gap as he was undergoing medical treatment. Appearing quite weak due to his illness, he arrived there in a bullet proof vehicle. Responding to a question, Hakim Zardari said that the PPP government has never been accepted in the country and the party’s present government is continuing due to the international situation.
He said that those who oppose the PPP are against his son, who is working in very difficult circumstances. “The PPP government is also facing problems from its allies as they are blackmailing it,” he added. Responding to another query, he termed PML-F chief Pir Pagara’s prediction that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would join the PML-F in the future as premature, saying that Bilawal will take time to join active politics. He said that the PPP government should have come up to the expectations of the people of Sindh, admitting that it failed in doing so.
