LAHORE – Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry on Thursday sought reply from the federal and Punjab governments on a petition seeking court orders directing the foreign and interior ministries to provide the Punjab government complete information about foreigners living in the province.
The LHC CJ directed the deputy attorney general and Punjab assistant advocate general to ensure submission of the reply within three weeks. Advocate Noshab A Khan filed the petition under Article 199 of the constitution after American national Raymond Davis killed two Pakistanis at the Qurtaba Chowk, Lahore some days ago.
The petitioner submitted that lack of correct information about Davis was creating hurdles for the public owing to which the interior and foreign ministries be directed to provide all necessary information to the Punjab home secretary about foreigners living in the province along with their duties and whereabouts.
Noshab requested the court to direct the Punjab government to take all necessary measures to safeguard life and property of citizens especially from foreigners.
