PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have lost 500 men from constable to top level officers as the frontline force was confronting the highly trained and equipped militants in the ongoing fighting against terrorism since 2007, the official statistics stated.
The sufferings of policemen’s lives in KP were higher than that of any other province in the country as the police officials were killed in bomb blasts, suicide attacks, remote controlled explosions and target killings in different parts of the province. One additional inspector general of police, two deputy inspector generals, two district police officers and seven deputy superintendents of police among 500 policemen were killed during in last four years.
Additional IG Siffwat Ghayur was working as commandant frontier constabulary when he was killed in a suicide attack few months ago. He had also served as capital chief police officer in Peshawar in 2009 when there was a serious law and order problem. He was on the hit list of suspected Taliban militants as he killed and arrested top commanders of the defunct Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan including Hijratullah, as a top commander for Khyber Agency.
The officials said that other heavy losses to the police department were the assassination of two DIGs Abid Ali and Malik Saad in a targeted shootout and suicide blasts respectively. The suspected militants had also killed two district police officers and seven DSPs.
