Pakistani troop killed in fire exchange with Afghan forces

PESHAWAR – The security forces on Wednesday said its one soldier was killed and 3 others sustained wounds when the Afghan National Army fired some 10 mortars on a security check post at Ghulam Khan over the Pak-Afghan border some 25 kms from Miranshah in North Waziristan.
No confirmation of the report could be received from Inter-Services Public Relations till the filing of this news report. Afghan authorities were holding Pakistani forces responsible for what they said an ‘unprovoked firing’ at their position from Pakistani side. “The forces retaliated the fire from the Afghan side,” a security official told this scribe on seeking anonymity.
He said some 10 mortars hit our post and initially wounded four soldiers. One of them later died at a hospital in Miranshah. He said the forces later sent a fresh batch of troops and they responded to the Aghan fire by using artillery from the Miranshah Fort. The official said across the border fire started at noon and lasted for two hours.
