NAB allows probe against PML-N MNA for Rs 6b fraud

ISLAMABAD – The executive board meeting of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday approved complaint verification against PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel for his alleged involvement in a fraud of Rs 6 billion in the non-transfer of land to National Police Foundation (NPF).
The meeting also approved filing of 11 references against corrupt officials while six complaints were also approved for verification. A source told Pakistan Today that there was enough material against the PML-N leader which convinced the meeting to go ahead with the probe into the scam. According to media reports, Aqeel had allegedly not transferred 329 kanals of land to the NPF and was facing the charges for selling 39 kanals of land to the NPF a number of times.
The meeting also approved the filing of 11 references with the accountability courts concerned for the loss caused to the public exchequer by various persons through corruption, corrupt practices, misuse of authority, illegal allotment of land and in the cases of exceeding assets beyond known sources of income.
NAB Chairman Justice (r) Deedar Hussain Shah chaired the meeting which approved references against Rafique Ahmad Awan, former Sheikhupura assistant commissioner, Muhammad Saeed Zafar, former Bahawalnagar deputy commissioner, and Sardar Muhammad Chattha for illegal allotment of thousands of kanals of lands through misuse of authority.
References were also approved against Dr Abdul Waheed, Rahimyar Khan executive district officer (EDO), Dr Muhammad Saleem, Swabi medical superintendent, Pervaiz Akhtar Shah, Peshawar WAPDA XEN, and Javed Raza Bhutta, PAEC principal engineer, for assets exceeding beyond means.
References were also approved against Major (r) Muhammad Asif Mengal, project director, and Captain (r) Muhammad Yousaf Niazi, former Balochistan secretary finance, Obaidullah, former Khuzdar treasury officer for causing loss to the public exchequer and Arshad Iqbal Jadoon for misappropriation of Zakat funds.
