KARACHI – Sindh Chief Secretary Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha assured the Sindh Education Sector Reform Programme (SERP) Joint Review Mission of World Bank on Monday that the Sindh government would achieve its targets during the third year of the SERP.
“But there are certain challenges that the Sindh government confronts due to the recent floods,” he said during a meeting with the SERP Joint Review Mission at the Sindh Secretariat. Pasha briefed the Mission about the progress of the first and second phases of SERP (2008-09, 2009-10) and current 3rd year reform agenda.
He also pointed out major initiatives like distribution of three textbooks to the students of class XI and XII, in addition to class I to X, payment of stipend to girls (class VI to X) at Rs 2,400 per annum and Rs 3,600 per annum in 30 talukas, the public private partnership under which 300 schools have been opened in 10 districts and other steps like the Sindh Education Management Information System and Teacher Education Development Reforms in Sindh.
The World Bank delegates discussed the fiscal and procurement management steps, monitoring and evaluation systems, SMCs and merit-based school specific requirements. These who attended the meeting included WB team leader Dhushyanth
