LAHORE – After the petition filed by Barrister Zafrullah Khan in Supreme Court on Monday against ‘diplomatic immunity’ for Raymond Davis, chances of his release are now hinged upon the approval of families of the deceased. Apparently they might be under great pressure in coming days to forgive or accept blood money from the killer of their loved ones.
Clerics, who backed the deceased families, have mixed reaction about the upcoming scenario. Ameer Markazi Jamaat-i-Ahlehadith Senator Professor Sajid Mir has warned the government to not to give undue concessions to the US national. “He is the killer of innocent Pakistanis and if anyone tries to release him they should be ready to face resistance,” said senator Mir, while admitting the right of the deceased families to forgive Raymond Davis.
Deputy Secretary General Jamaat-i-Islami Farid Paracha said Black Water was busy in terrorist activities in Pakistan and Davis was its agent, adding that a thorough investigation should be carried out to unearth the network. Qari Zawar Bhahadar of JUP (N) blamed the rulers by saying “they came to power with the help of US, now they are dying to help their godfathers. No law in the world provides the diplomats a license to kill and if the heirs forgive the murderer, it means that they were forced do so by the government of Pakistan,” said Qari Zawar.
Tehrik-i-Jafria Pakistan head Sajid Naqvi said the issue should be resolved under the constitution of Pakistan. International laws should also be respected but not as blankets to forgive murderers. Sajid Naqvi while giving the reference of Islamic laws said if the relatives of the deceased are willing to forgive the killer, according to sharia, they have the full right to do so.
